Peninsula Early Years Centre

We offer a variety of educational and parenting support opportunities. At the Peninsula Early Years Centre, you can connect with programs in support of children's health & development or with our Outreach Workers for questions about ages and stages you might have. We also have our Child Passenger Safety programs in support of safe travels while in a vehicle and the Play & Chat Packs program in support of language development. Located at 1649 Mt. Newton Cross Road, Saanichton.

Peninsula Health Unit

Prenatal Services at the Peninsula Health Unit include: Identify topics important to you during your pregnancy such as nutrition, lifestyle factors, community support and your hopes for your pregnancy and birth.  You may want information about getting ready for your baby’s arrival including what to expect when feeding and caring for your new baby. Post Natal Services include: Postpartum Support (offers physical and emotional support to new moms and their babies, including infant feeding, and you and your baby’s well-being and care); Breast-feeding Support (clinic-based); Family & Community Health (referrals to health & community resources as needed); Child Health Clinics & Immunizations.Location: 2170 Mt Newton Cross Rd. Saanichton BC.

Prenatal Education and Outreach

The SFRS Prenatal Education and Outreach Services provides local group or individual prenatal education, support, and outreach to pregnant women and their families in Sooke and the surrounding areas. We offer a low to no-cost program for all who need or want prenatal services. This program is a partnership program with the Best Babies program. Located at 766 Wadams Way, Sooke

West Shore Health Unit

Best Babies (Colwood)

Best Babies is a free program for pregnant women needing extra support due to family violence, poverty, addictions, food insecurity, isolation and/or health issues, including emotional and cognitive difficulties. Women can remain in the group from pregnancy until their baby is 8 weeks of age. The Best Babies services are offered through a team of professionals including a VIHA Public Health Nurse, VIHA Dietitian, dental hygienist and the Program Support and Outreach Worker. Located at 345 Wale Road, Colwood.

La Leche League

You are always welcome to attend La Leche League meetings before and after you have had your baby. Bring your breastfeeding questions and concerns, talk about your joys and challenges or come and just listen. Babies and young children are always welcome, and some Groups include father/partners in some or all of their meetings. Call Ruth or Uschi for details and address.

Introduction to Cloth Diapering

New parents today have so many choices when it comes to cloth diapering that it can be overwhelming! Should you choose hemp? cotton? fleece? bamboo? What about closures... snaps or velcro or...? And how do you wash them? Join us for fun, interactive cloth diapering workshop and let us help you make sense of it all. $5. Located at Mothering Touch Centre, 975 Fort St. Victoria.

Pregnancy Happy Hour

You don’t have to be showing to show up! Chat with other pregnant people in a friendly and comfortable setting. The discussion will be facilitated by an experienced childbirth educator. A chance to discuss the joys and woes of pregnancy. This group is for pregnant people only. Drop-in, $2. Located at Mothering Touch Centre, 975 Fort St. 

Aboriginal Prenatal Group

This group's focus is to support pregnant mothers to have the healthiest babies possible. A Public Health Nurse teaches prenatal classes and a dietitian provides nutritional information. Hosted by the Victoria Native Friendship Centre, located at 231 Regina Ave. Victoria 

Baby Group

This free support and information group includes: speakers, discussion, fun and friendship with other new parents. Registration required, please call number below. Located at James Bay Community Project, 547 Michigan St. Victoria.

Best Babies (Tillicum/Saanich)

Prenatal nutrition program. Provides resources for pregnant and parenting mothers, up to 6 months after delivery. Vitamins, food vouchers, childminding, and lunch available. Please call to register. Located at Saanich Neighbourhood Place, 3100 Tillicum Rd. Victoria (inside Pearkes Rec. Centre, behind Tillicum Mall)

Best Babies (Fernwood)

Free pre- and post- natal groups for pregnant people or new parents. Educational sessions, one-on-one support, food vouchers, produce, prenatal vitamis & supplements, baby food demos, healthy snacks and lunch, hospital tours and hospital pre-registration, onsite access to a Public Health Nurse, a Dietitian, and a Dental Hygienist. Call to register. Located at Fernwood Community Centre, 1240 Gladstone Ave. 

Best Babies (Quadra Village)

A pre- and post-natal program, in cooperation with Victoria Best Babies and Island Health that aims to optimize nutrition and health in expectant new parents and families. Weekly meetings, one to one support plus dietitian, public health nurse and dental hygienist services. Registration required, call Helen at number below. Located at Quadra Village Community Centre, 901 Kings Rd. Victoria.

This program offers: prenatal services, postpartum support, breasfeeding support, family and community health, child health clinic and immunization, and Baby's Best Chance (parent handbook). Baby Bed Program

The Baby Bed program is a safe sleep initiative that provides a bed for baby and care items to promote a healthy start in life. The beds can be used until babies are up to four or five months old or when they begin to roll. Participating families are also connected to public health nurses and programs that support baby, mom and family.
